Gabrovo is located in Northern Bylgariya 220km northeast of Sofia. Has a population of 80,000 inhabitants. Situated in the northern spurs of the Balkan Mountains, on both banks of the Yantra River and 392 meters above sea level.
Located just 8 kilometers from the town of Gabrovo, covering an area of 70 acres, the ethnographic museum is the first museum of its kind in the open country. It's making began in 1963. under the leadership of Lazar Donkov. "In the previous expositions could not put the viewer in direct contact with past reality. This was the reason - says Donkov - to be born in my mind to create an active outdoor museum .... so that the past can become visible , easygoing and understanding to be able to preserve this great national treasure. " The exhibition provides insight into the lives of Gabrovo typical craftsmanship settlement 150 years ago. In the workshops are presented live about 20 craft - carving, bakardzhiystvo, pipe making, cow-bell making, bakery, forging, herbs, cutlery, weaving, braiding, leather, turnery, pottery. Various mechanisms in the furniture workshop hand tools are also very authentic.
